PAST PROJECTS: HIGHLIGHTS
LUIGI ROSSI AND THE ROMAN VIRTUOSA
A doctoral project focusing on the ravishing lyric baroque music of 17th-century composer Luigi Rossi. Ten new editions for multiple voices by Katina Mitchell, copied from manuscripts in Italy and England.
A performance art collective specializing in all-original interdisciplinary art. Every performance is a premiere. Featured at ArtWalk LA, the Belasco Theatre, the Vortex Dome, ArtShare LA, and Crossroads Performance Space. Katina has worked as both a performer and piece director.
DER GEDULDIGE SOCRATES
Amherst Early Music's production of Telemann's comic opera from 1721. Katina performed the principal role of Edronica.
A production of The Threepenny Opera in the original German, performed in Middlebury, Vermont. Katina performed the lead role of Polly Peachum.
NEW WORLD JABBERWOCKY
In collaboration with USC Film School and Andrew Rinehard. Music by Jordan Kuspa, with Katina Mitchell, soprano and Peter Walsh, piano. Winner of a Wonderland Award.
This ensemble features two harps and specializes in early music and original arrangements of folk music. Recent performances include Berkeley Early Music Festival and Old First Concerts in San Francisco.
Thornton Baroque Sinfonia's performance of the lavish 1589 intermedii composed for the royal wedding of Christine of Lorraine and Ferdinand de'Medici.
This original production directed by Katina Mitchell has entranced audiences across California, from Los Angeles to Berkeley. The project includes a new edition and new translation, and was featured in the LA Times.
GIFTS FROM OVER SEA
The chamber duo Gifts From Over Sea performed folk and chamber music in medieval venues on a tour through Italy and Germany.
A collaboration between USC Thornton School of Music and USC Roski School of Design. Katina's group created the Trash Harp, on which she premiered the piece "Weaving" by Deanna Lynn.
